The Region

Seki is ideal for visitors who want to go on small tours to explore the historically rich region of Antalya in Turkey. Numerous ancient sites, of which Side, Seleuickiea,  Aspendos, Perge, Selge and Termessus are only the more famous ones surround the village Seki. The whole southern coast of Turkey, from Fethiye to Mersin is filled with a breathtaking amount of ancient sites: Ancient Greeks, Ancient Romans, Early Christians, Seldjuk Turks and Ottomans have all lived at different times in this region.

The advantage of the location of the village Seki is, that it lies right at the center of the southern coast of Turkey. A one hour car drive west will bring you to Antalya and further to Olympos, Kas and Kalkan. To the east, you can reach Alanya in less than an hour. From Alanya onward you can find ancient and medieval castles beautifully lined up along the coast. Driving inland, the beautiful scenery of the Taurus mountains, its waterfalls, caves and traditional villages will give you plenty to explore. If you rent a car it is fairly easy to explore the region on your own, since especially the larger sites are documented in depth in tour guides on Turkey.

Cultural and Festival tourism in Turkey has developed significantly over the last years. Throughout the summer months the ancient theaters of Side and Aspendos continually house concerts, operas, theater plays and other cultural events. Two larger events are worth mentioning in this context: The Side Culture and Art Festival usually takes place between 1st and 15th of September. The Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival usually takes place in June and/or July.
